Discover Amalia Tagaris’ Unique Encaustic and Collage Techniques at Diana Stelin Gallery

Experience Amalia Tagaris’ “Seascapes: Expressions of Water and Light” at Diana Stelin

Boston, MA – October 15, 2024

I’m excited to announce our latest exhibition at Diana Stelin Gallery, “Seascapes: Expressions of Water and Light,” featuring the breathtaking work of Greek artist Amalia Tagaris. Running from October 15th through November 22nd, this exhibition highlights Amalia’s unique use of encaustic painting and Japanese paper collage to create dynamic, textured seascapes inspired by the beauty and tranquility of the Mediterranean.

Amalia’s work stands out for its innovative use of encaustic art, an ancient technique that involves fusing hot wax with pigments to create rich, layered textures. Her encaustic seascapes capture the fluid, ever-changing nature of the ocean, and her masterful technique brings each piece to life, with light and color shifting as you move through the space.

What truly sets her work apart is the integration of collaged Japanese papers within the wax. These delicate, organic patterns mimic the natural movement of water, adding intricate texture and depth to her paintings. The combination of wax and paper creates a sense of transparency and dimension, evoking the feeling of sunlight glimmering on waves or soft sea foam swirling on the shore.

Mediterranean Influence and Artistic Vision

Amalia’s deep connection to the Mediterranean Sea is at the heart of her work. Her art reflects not only the natural beauty of the sea but also its emotional resonance. Each painting is a reflection of her personal experiences by the water, offering viewers a moment of peace and introspection. With a background in psychology, Amalia infuses her seascapes with a sense of calm and healing, inviting you to pause and immerse yourself in the moment.

Meet the Artist & Enjoy a Taste of Greece

We’re hosting a special artist reception on Thursday, October 24th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet Amalia Tagaris in person. Hear directly from her about her creative process, the Mediterranean’s influence on her work, and how she combines encaustic techniques with collage. Plus, enjoy delicious Greek food as we celebrate the art and culture that inspire Amalia’s stunning seascapes.
